KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The four-day long festival of Chhath observed mainly by the natives of Terai region of Nepal has concluded on Thursday with offerings made to the rising sun.
Fasting Devotees stood on the embankments of Bagmati River at Gaurighat of Kathmandu offering a basketful of fruits and other delicacies to the rising Sun. With the offerings, the women break their fast of four days when any sort of grains or spices are not consumed.
As per the beliefs, the one who fasts and prays Chhati Maiya, wife of Sun, would be showered with blessings and their wishes would come true. Although it is celebrated mainly in the Southern Plains, Chhath nowadays is also observed in Hilly regions of Nepal.
