KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Nepal’s exports declined 8.65 percent while its imports also fell 1.56 percent in the first month of the current fiscal year.
The records maintained by the Department of Customs (DoC) show that the country’s export earnings dropped to Rs 13.52 billion during mid-July and mid-August this year, compared to Rs 14.80 billion in the same period of the last fiscal year. Likewise, the country’s import expense also declined to Rs 129.23 billion from Rs 131.28 billion in the review period.

With a decline in imports, Nepal had its trade deficit declined marginally by 0.66 percent. The country’s trade deficit, which was Rs 146.09 billion in the first month of last fiscal year, came down to Rs 142.76 billion in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year.
