Import of four-wheelers declines through Birgunj border

Compared to the same period last year, the number of vehicles imported has dropped by 38.13 percent, while revenue has decreased by 16.43 percent. In the first five months of the previous fiscal year, 779 vehicles worth Rs 1.2 billion were imported, generating Rs 2.8 billion in revenue.

PARSA, Dec 24: The import of four-wheeled vehicles through the Birgunj customs office has decreased in the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, a total of 482 jeeps, cars, and vans, valued at Rs 920.336 million, were imported during this period.


Compared to the same period last year, the number of vehicles imported has dropped by 38.13 percent, while revenue has decreased by 16.43 percent. In the first five months of the previous fiscal year, 779 vehicles worth Rs 1.2 billion were imported, generating Rs 2.8 billion in revenue.

Customs data also reveals a decline in imports of both fuel-powered and electric four-wheeled vehicles. In the current fiscal year, 97 electric vehicles (jeeps, cars, and vans), valued at Rs 147.8 million, were imported through the Birgunj border. This marks a 59.07 percent decrease in the number of electric vehicles and a 58.63 percent drop in revenue compared to the same period last year, when 237 electric vehicles worth Rs 465.8 million were imported, yielding a revenue of Rs 203.5 million.
