KATHMANDU, July 23: Nepal imported more than 11,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the last one year. According to the Department of Customs, the country imported 11,701 EVs in the fiscal year 2023/24. This number is almost three times more than the previous year. In the previous fiscal year 2022/23, a total of 4,050 electric vehicles were imported in the country.
The import price of these vehicles is Rs 29.482 billion. From this, the government collected revenue of Rs 13.2867 billion.
Import of EVs soared five-folds in Q1 of current FY
Most of the EVs imported into Nepal in the last fiscal year fall in the 51 to 100 kW capacity, accounting for 6,885 units of imports.
According to the department, the second most imported EVs were jeeps, vans and cars of up to 50 kW capacity and the number of units imported stood at 4,571 units.
According to the department, a total of 8,065 electric vehicles were imported from China during the review year while 3,377 electric vehicles were imported from India.
