KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The parliament's Impeachment Recommendation Committee has finalized its working procedure, which includes a provision that allows the committee to inspect the residence or office of suspended chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki.

The working procedure of the committee states that the committee can visit or inspect the office or other agencies associated with the alleged individual in the course of investigation.

The committee endorsed its working procedures Thursday with parliament set to move ahead with the impeachment motion filed against Karki after concluding two weeks of deliberations on the motion. Some lawmakers in the committee had opposed the idea of inspecting Karki's residence or office.

The committee can also summon the alleged individual for his/her clarification and record statement, according to the working procedures. Also, the committee can also ask for documents from any government office for study and investigation.

In addition, the committee has decided to accept complaints from members of the public if such complaints are authenticated by at least three lawmakers.

The committee will at first summon the accused for questioning with regard to the allegations within seven days after initiating investigation on the impeachment motion. If the alleged individual refuses to appear before the committee, the committee will issue a public notice to him through the mass media.

The parliamentary regulations have stated that the committee should submit its report to parliament within a month after receiving the impeachment motion from the parliament.

The parliament meeting scheduled for 1 pm on Friday is expected to forward the impeachment motion to the committee filed by 157 lawmakers.
