Immigration Department to make air travel papers machine-readable

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: The Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs is set to have all necessary documents for air travel made machine-readable.

The immigration department said that the move follows an agreement to this effect with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).Bishwo Prakash Neupane, director of the immigration department, said that preparations are underway to get all required documents for air travel made machine-readable from November 24 as per the agreement, in coordination with the Department of Passport.

"We are attempting to improve online application system for foreign employment to make the works of the department effective and feasible. Final steps are underway to get all travel documents made machine-readable," Neupane said.

Earlier, the ICAO had issued a notice for all countries to get all the required documents for air travel made machine-readable from November 24, 2015. RSS
