The second edition of Imagine Cup Nepal served as a platform for youngsters and entrepreneurs in the field of Information Technology. The competition had three different categories this year viz Gaming, World Citizenship, and Innovation, where participants worked to simplify human lives with technological innovation.
In the Games category, Team Octavian bagged the first prize, Team Enigma 4 and Team Hraswa secured the first and second runner up positions respectively. Under the category of Innovation, Team Caicas was the winner while Project Capy and Team Yakwalk secured the first and second runner up positions respectively. Arion was the winning team under the World Citizenship category, followed by Team Krishighar and Team Yakwalk in the first and second runner up positions respectively.
While all the winners were awarded with trophies, members of Team Octavian, Team Caicas and Team Arion were also presented with Microsoft mobile phones. They will also represent their projects and compete in the world finals being held this July in Seattle, USA.
Operated under the supervision of Microsoft Corporation, USA, Microsoft Imagine Cup is organized by Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) Nepal here.
According to Allen Bailochan Tuladhar of MIC Nepal, the competitions had 32 teams from all over Nepal with a total of 117 participants. "The competition this year was really tough and seeing the Nepali IT market grow is really overwhelming," he said.
Ngon Seok Chern, Academic Programs Ops Manager at Microsoft APAC AHQ DX Team in Singapore, who was also the chief guest of the awards ceremony, shared his experience as a participant in Imagine Cup 2008. "Youth should focus more on innovative programming and actively participate in competitions worldwide," he said.
