Stating that it was his duty to safeguard the sovereignty of the country in his capacity as the head of state, President Yadav said he wants to pass the ‘final test’.[break]
“This is like my final test,” said President Yadav while inaugurating the Western Industrial, Trade and Tourism Fair in Tansen, Friday. “In my capacity as the first president of republican Nepal, I am worried over whether I would be able to keep territorial integrity and unity intact.”
I have a desire to put my name in history through my modest contribution in institutionalizing the achievements made through people’s movement, he said.
He sought blessings from the people to help him safeguard territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The president said he had contributed to the people’s movement that helped abolish the 240 years old institution of monarchy and added, “The main challenge now is to institutionalize democracy by safeguarding the achievements of the movement.”
While urging political parties to become united, the president argued that state restructuring should be done in a practical manner so that the diversity and unity remain intact.
He also expressed confidence that proper utilization of water, forests and medicinal herbs could accelerate economic development of Nepal.
