According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sher Bahadur Basnet, Madhav Ghimire killed Samjhana´s husband Chandra Bahadur Bohara and the latter´s friend Bishnu. Bohara and Samjhana married inter-cast a year ago. [break]
Samjhana had started feuding with Bohara immediately after they got married. She started a love affair with Ghimire, another Maoist combatant, after her family objected to her husband, pointing out that he was from a so-called lower caste.
Ghimire admitted before police that he murdered Bohara and his friend Bishnu to marry Samjhana. According to him, Bohara and Bishnu were given alcohol mixed with poison.
Ghimire bought ´thaiodin´ in Butwal to poison Bohara and Bishnu. Ghimire took Bohara, Bishnu and Samjhana into the jungle on July 14, pretending that they had to collect mushrooms.
In the jungle near the cantonment they all drank alcohol without poison first.
But later, when Bohara and Bishnu were semi-conscious from the heavy drinking, Ghimire gave them alcohol laced with the poison. Ghimire said Bohara and Bishnu lay down after drinking the mixture.
Ghimire admitted that he smashed their head with rocks and killed them.
According to police, Samjhana said she was unaware of the murder plan though she had talked often enough with Ghimire about their marriage plans. Samjhana had warned Bohara that she would kill herself if he returned to the cantonment. Bohara had left the cantonment five months back.
Maoist combatants had tried to break up the marriage in view of the worsening feud between the two. But Bohara refused to divorce Samjhana, pointing out that their marriage had not taken place inside the cantonment. Friends then suggested to Bohara and Samjhana to end their feud and learn to live together.
Local villagers informed the Maoist combatants about the dead bodies of Bohara and Bishnu on July 15. Later, police recovered the bodies.
