According to a highly-placed source at the CIAA, IGP Thakuri was interrogated last Friday. "He was asked in detail about the tender awarding and selection process for the purchase of the jackets," the source told myrepublica.com. [break]
The source said that IGP Thakuri defended himself saying every decision was taken with good intentions and as per the existing law. He claimed no embezzlement took place while awarding tender.
"Our main purpose was to acquire quality jackets from a reliable firm and we concentrated on that. We did not intend to indulge in corruption," the source quoted IGP as saying.
The source informed that Thakuri was grilled for about two and a half hours. He was asked about two dozen questions. "He appeared before the commission in national dress."
"Investigation officials might have summoned him for regular investigations. I cannot make comment on the investigation," said Lalit Bahadur Limbu, the CIAA acting chief.
CIAA had raided Nepal Police headquarters and seized important documents related to the purchase a month ago after complaints of irregularities worth Rs 50 million in the purchase of 56,059 parka.
The procurement division at Nepal Police headquarters had awarded a tender worth Rs 100 million to Ananda Trade Concern (ATC) some two months ago, while denying the contract to the lowest bidder.
