IEWON meet in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, April 7: The ongoing 21st Annual Welfare Meeting (April 5-11) of Indian Army Ex-servicemen Welfare Organization in Nepal (IEWON) here is discussing issues including customs duty exemption for the Indian Army ex-servicemen domiciled in Nepal, lease of land for Pension Paying Office (PPO, Butwal), Canteen Store department facilities in Nepal and implementation of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Schemes for the ex-servicemen, according to the Indian Embassy.



Government of India has been looking after their welfare aspects since 1942.



More than 1,00,000 Indian Army ex-servicemen are are settled in Nepal and over 40,000 Nepalis are currently serving in the Indian Army. It is estimated that every year more than IRs 1,000 crore is distributed as pension to these ex-servicemen.



IEWON is a welfare organization operating under the aegis of Embassy of India and is responsible for the welfare of Indian Army ex-servicemen living in Nepal.
