ICT Electronics Branding Expo kicks off

KATHMANDU, April 9: Samsung Galaxy Grand ICT Electronics Branding Expo 2013 kicked off at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall on Tuesday.



The five-day event will showcase the latest ICT products and services. The event is especially targeted at students who recently completed their SLC examinations. The event is being organized by Information Communication and Technology (CT) Association of Nepal (ICT). Cultural expert Satya Mohan Joshi inaugurated the event. [break]



Speaking on the occasion, CN Upadhyay, coordinator of the expo and treasurer of ICT Association of Nepal, said the expo is being organized to educate general public about the latest technologies and developments in the ICT sector. “The event also targets to expand the market of ICT products,” he added.



The expo has 87 stalls of 70 companies in 17 pavilions. It will display products like latest models of desktops and laptops, servers, touch pads, sound systems, networking systems, security systems, printers, home appliances, power supply solutions, mobile phones, monitors, projectors, hardware, and software, among others.

“We have tried to provide a platform for those involved in the ICT industry. The expo is focused more on branding rather than sales,” Shishir Upadhyay, president of the ICT Association of Nepal, said.



Short-throw projector by Mitsubishi, locally assembled Motif brand of mobile phones, new sound systems, and keyboards are the devices that have been introduced at the expo. Customers can get 5 to 15 percent discount on various products kept on display at the expo.



According to the organizers, mobile phones, laptops, projectors, and antivirus and security systems were the major crowd pullers on the first day of the event. “The sales of laptops and mobile phones were very good on the first day itself,” said Sishir.



Meanwhile, the association felicitated senior media personality Hari Sharan Shrestha, senior engineer Bijay Krishna Shrestha and former managing director of Nepal Telecom Sugat Ratna Kansakar recognizing their contribution in the development of ICT sector in Nepal.



The organizers are expecting total footfall of 300,000 during the expo. Entrance fee has have been fixed at Rs 50 for general visitors and Rs 25 for students. SLC appeared students get free entry to the event.
