Popularized by basketball player Chuck Taylor, Converse shoes are also commonly known as ´Chucks´ or ´Cons´. They are also known as canvas because of the rubber sole on them. Converse started gaining popularity - cutting barriers in terms of color and age - only after Chuck became the leading salesman of these shoes. Silencing people who say foot-wears should only be in black or brown color, this iconic brand is available in varied colors such as red, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange and the list goes on.
“Converse comes as various kinds. Some of the available converse categories in the town are tennis shoes, One-star, All-star, sneakers and basketball shoes,” says Sanjay Maharjan, an attendant at Converse store at the fourth floor in United World Trade Center, Tripureshwar. Converse Six and Nine Traders is the distributor of converse shoes in Nepal and they are selling converse from their outlets in People´s Plaza-Khichapokhari, City Center-Kamalpokhari, The Kathmandu Mall- Sundhara and United world Trade Center-Tripureshwar.
According to Sanjay, the price of Converse shoes at his outlet range from Rs 2,190 to Rs 7,290. The store offers a discount of 10 percent on every purchase. Converse shoes are available on varied materials like cotton, jeans and leather. The ones made of leather are comparatively dearer. If they happen to be of limited editions, the shoes will be more expensive. Converse shoes are available on variety of designs ranging from double lace to double tongue and also high and low ankle length.
Another store -- Bambino Shoes at shop No. 2-13 at The Kathmandu Mall -- also sells Converse shoes that cost as low as Rs 890 and as high as Rs 2,850. Sudin Maharjan, manager, Bambino, says, “Converse that come as double sole are better in quality and durable to use than the ones with single sole. The former costs around Rs 1,890 while the latter can be had at Rs 1,300 at Bambino,” he added. Bambino sells Converse shoes especially imported from China.
Affordable in cost and comfortable to use, Converse shoes are truly for everyone and the options are numerous. If you are wondering what makes some of these foot gears expensive, model and serial number are some of the factors that determine the price.
“Similar patterns may differ in cost because of the model number. But the good thing is that the difference in cost is just around Rs 100 to Rs 200”, Sanjay adds.
Be it the ones worn by AC/DC or the 21st Century, one can easily avail Converse shoes exactly similar to what their favorite bands wear. But one needs to be brave enough to go for a particular color and design and let go the other, as each pair is equally enchanting.
