Thapa made such comments upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Saturday.[break]
Thapa defeated the Vice-president of Iran Ali Saeed Loo for the post, that represents the South and Central Asian Zone, during the election held in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
Thapa, also the president of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) received a grand welcoming by the ANFA officials, coaches and other sports related people.
Thapa said that he would give high emphasis to the development of physical infrastructure for football in Nepal during his four years tenure as AFC vice president. "I will try to construct an international level stadium in Nepal during my tenure as AFC vice president. However, the government should cooperate by providing land for the construction of stadium."
Thapa said that defeating vice president of a powerful country like Iran in the election was a great achievement. He also termed his victory as the result of his sound personal relations and his friendly nature.
"I am known in the AFC as an extrovert speaker and I managed to get the support of South Asian countries like India and Pakistan. I think this election also reflected on my commitment to the football and most of the AFC members seemed to recognize my effort."

Thapa is one of the four newly elected vice presidents of the AFC working committe under the presidency of Bin Hamam of Qatar who himself got elected unanimously for the third consecutive time. Thapa had contested in the election from Hamam´s panel.
Thapa was the member of AFC executive committee for two terms before being elected as vice president for the committee. He has been leading the ANFA since last 15 years.
