HETAUDA, Feb 6: The Bagmati Province government has allocated a budget of Rs 525 million for the construction of the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Chitwan.
Chief Minister (CM) Shalikram Jamkattel of Bagmati Province announced that the provincial cabinet meeting held on Tuesday approved a multi-year contract for the construction of the stadium after securing the necessary funds.

Earlier, the Bagmati Province government had pledged to contribute 70 percent of the funds, with the remaining 30 percent to be covered by Bharatpur Metropolitan City for the stadium's construction. As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by Bharatpur Metropolitan City, the Bagmati Province government's investment will amount to Rs 525 million, while Bharatpur Metropolitan City will contribute Rs 225 million.
The Dhurmus Suntali Foundation, which initiated the construction of the stadium in Bharatpur Municipality, withdrew from the project citing difficulties in fundraising. Now, the remaining construction work will be undertaken by the Bagmati Province government and Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Furthermore, the cabinet meeting has decided to pay the dues to the contractor for project work completed in the previous fiscal year.
The cabinet meeting has also recommended 10 projects each for supplementary and special grants from the federal government for the upcoming fiscal year. The federal government and the provincial government will jointly support the supplementary projects, while the federal government will solely invest in the special subsidy scheme.
