KATHMANDU, April 20: Former minister for home Krishna Prasad Sitaula has told the parliamentary State Affairs Committee that he was not involved in the multi-million rupees Sudan scam while he was the home minister.

"In my capacity as then home minister, I was not involved in the bidding process and payment while procuring the Armed Personnel Carriers (APCs). I did not endorse any file in the procurement process as the APCs were imported through money from Nepal Police Welfare Fund," subcommittee member Ram Janam Choudhary quoted Sitaula as saying on Tuesday. The parliamentary subcommittee on Tuesday grilled Sitaula and then home secretary Umesh Mainali over the 300 million Sudan scam.

According to Choudhary, former secretary Mainali also said that the procurement of the APCs from the police welfare fund doesn´t fall under the jurisdiction of the home ministry.

The subcommittee has already grilled then Inspector General Om Bikram Rana over the scam. The subcommittee will submit its report to the full committee meeting on Friday and take a decision. "The truths and facts about the corruption have already come out in the open. We are currently preparing a report and the full committee will deliberate on the issue," said Choudhary.
