I want to spend time with my family now: Sandeep Lamichhane

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: After being released from prison on bail, former captain of the Nepali national cricket team Sandeep  Lamichhane said Friday that he wants to spend some time with his family now.

“I will respect the order of the court. For now, I can't think of anything else but my family. I want to be with my family now. Thank you for your immense love, I am not in a position to respond now,” said Lamichhane, who is facing charges of raping a minor.

The Patan High Court on Thursday ordered his release on a bail amount of Rs 2 million. Lamichhane was released from prison after his family paid a bail amount of Rs 2 million to the District Court, Kathmandu on Friday. The court is yet to issue a final verdict on the case.

Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl, was released from prison on certain conditions. As per the court order, he has to abide by ten conditions. If found violating the the terms and conditions, he will be sent back to prison.

The court has banned him from going abroad. He is not even allowed to leave the Kathmandu Valley without the permission of the District Police Office, Kathmandu. The court has also asked the police to keep a close watch on him.
