KATHMANDU, July 3: The obstruction in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly has been removed after the government promised to rectify the budget.
CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) have been disrupting the provincial assembly meeting on the grounds that the budget for the fiscal year 2080/81 BS presented by Economic Affairs Minister Bahadur Singh Lama on June 16 was unbalanced and discriminatory. The government is ready to address the opposition parties in the all-party meeting held on Monday after the appropriation bill could not be discussed.
Koshi province assembly approves budget for FY 2024/25
In the Provincial Assembly meeting that started soon after, Economic Affairs Minister Lama said that there was an agreement with the opposition parties and that the budget would be implemented. CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Jagannath Thapaliya said that the government has realized the mistake that the budget has become unbalanced. He said, “I felt that this plan was not included. There has been a commitment that the imbalance seen in districts, regions, villages, and wards will be fixed before passing the budget.”
He said that before the budget is passed by the provincial assembly, the Council of Ministers has agreed to amend the budget. Leader of RPP parliamentary party Uddhav Thapa also said that by trusting the government, they have cleared the hurdles in the Provincial Assembly meeting.
