NEPALGUNJ, July 18: Human trafficking has been on the rise from Nepalgunj-based Jamunaha transit point at the Nepal-India border, according to a report published by Banke district chapter of Maiti Nepal, an organization active against human trafficking.


According to the report, the organization intercepted 726 people making potentially risky journey towards India from Jamunaha border during the fiscal year of 2015/016 which ended just a day ago.

The organization had rescued 509 potential victims of human trafficking during the fiscal year of 2014/015. The number was limited to 503 in the fiscal year of 2013/014, according to the organization.


“There is a big need to raise awareness against human trafficking. Monitoring at border points should also be tightened,” said Keshav Koirala, chief of Nepalgunj-based Maiti Nepal.
