Main opposition Nepali Congress boycotted the meeting accusing the government of pushing the country toward anarchy and promoting reign of terror. Following the NC’s boycott, Speaker Subas Nembang adjourned the House meeting until Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, most of the political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly had urged the prime minister to implement the nine-point agreement signed with NC a month ago. Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janashaktit Party supported NC’s stance and walked out of the parliament.
In the meeting that resumed after three days of adjournment following NC’s boycott, lawmakers from ruling CPN-UML, Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) and Sadbhavana Party joined hands with the main opposition to rap PM Dahal for his indifferent attitude toward implementation of the agreement. “The prime minister must take the opposition parties in confidence to ensure smooth functioning of the House and break present political deadlock,” said Pradip Gyawali, a member of ruling CPN-UML. “Government must implement the agreement otherwise it will lose public faith.”
MPRF lawmaker Hari Narayan Yadav urged the prime minister to immediately implement the agreement and create an atmosphere for smooth running of the House. He also criticized the government for failing to implement the agreements signed with MPRF before the CA elections.
Laxman Lal Karna of Sadbhavana Party, warned of strong protest program in Tarai if the agreements are not honored by the government. “The government has not implemented the agreements signed with Madhesi groups,” he said. “If it [government] signs deals and never implements it, it will face serious consequences in the near future.”
Besides the NC, other opposition parties -- Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Samajbadi Prajatantrik Janata Dal, Nepal Workers and Peasants´ Party and RPP-Nepal -- blamed the CPN (Maoist)-led government for pushing the country toward another conflict.
NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire criticized Maoist leaders for rejecting outright the PM’s commitment to return the captured property to owners and challenged them to live a life of beggar just as the displaced people are living in urban areas after their properties had been captured by the Maoists.
He also claimed that the police administration has started running under YCL instructions and the state has been spreading terror in colleges and industrial enterprises.
