KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Social Justice and Human Rights Committee at the Legislature-Parliament has decided to invite Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to discuss the government's preparations to amend the existing act related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission for the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Person (CIEDP).
The Committee meeting on Friday directed the government to provide necessary legal structures and resources for the two transitional justice mechanisms. The Committee has asked the government to immediately register a bill to amend CIEDP and TRC Act, 2014 in the Parliament.
As the TRC and the CIEDP have been demanding amendments in the act to meet the international standard of transitional justice and to incorporate related verdicts from the Supreme Court, the House panel on Friday stressed the amendment.
In this regard, the Committee has taken the decision to invite Prime Minister, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs as well as chairpersons of the TRC, CIEDP and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the next meeting of the Committee. However, the Committee has not scheduled the date for next meeting.
The Committee has also asked the government to present the annual report of the NHRC at the Parliament for discussion.
