KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The parliamentary special committee formed to investigate embezzlement of cooperative funds has taken a statement from Bipin Kumar Acharya, the joint general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) allegedly involved in the embezzlement of cooperative funds. The committee summoned Acharya and took his statement on Sunday morning at Singha Durbar.
MP Ishwari Neupane, a member of the committee, said Acharya was asked questions regarding the matters related to him.

Acharya is allegedly involved in the misappropriation of funds of the Supreme Savings & Credit Cooperative, Butwal. It has appeared that a loan of Rs 15.615 million was approved from the cooperative on December 27, 2021 in Acharya's name, and the amount was transferred to the account of Gorkha Media Network Pvt Ltd.
The committee is taking statements from those allegedly involved in cooperative fraud. According to MP Neupane, statements are also being taken from people who are currently in prison.
The committee is preparing to summon RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who is also allegedly involved in cooperative fraud, and take his statement within a few days.
MP Neupane said that preparations are ongoing to summon Lamichhane and take his statement later this week, possibly on August 22 or 23.
