KATHMANDU, March 31: The International Relations and Labor Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has urged the Office of Company Registrar to provide details of the organizations involved in the outsourcing business.

The lawmakers expressed serious concerns at its meeting on Tuesday stating that the workers involved in the outsourcing business were not given appropriate remuneration and were exploited from the concerned firms.

Lawmakers said that the companies that recruited the workers through outsourcing organizations were found breaching the set parameters fixed by the government even by suspending the employees for no serious reason.

The lawmakers claimed that the suppliers have bagged extra benefits with low payment to the workers, adding that such practices should be brought to an end.

Speaking at the meeting, lawmaker Chudamani Jungali said though the existing Labor Act has remained mute on the provision of the outsourcing companies, the workers are supplied through such companies. He also suggested making a clear provision in the Labor Act.

Likewise, lawmaker Pemba Lama said the drivers and laborers hired for cleanliness in Singhadurbar are kept arranged from the outsourcing companies and were paid less than the minimum salary scale determined by the government.

During the meeting, Director General of the Department of Labor Barun Kumar Jha said the Department has not registered any outsourcing companies as the Labor Act has no provision in this regard.

The meeting directed the Department to investigate into the alleged case of suspension of eight women working at Prajiyocom Company in Bara, and submit the report. The workers are claimed to have been sacked for no reasons. RSS
