KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The House of Representatives (HoR), Public Account Committee, has sought correction in the local government's decision in Dhading to lease public land to a cement factory for 50 years.
A Committee meeting today took a decision to this regard after taking views of officials from the Industry Ministry and the Investment Board on a report presented by its sub-committee about the activities of a Chinese company, Huaxin Cement Company, in the area. The government has been directed to go for corrections. "The decision is illegal and the Committee has sought correction of the agreement towards that end," said Committee secretary Dr Rojnath Pandey.
It seems that an access way to the cement factory was constructed by changing a natural course of the Malekhu River. The company has been asked not to touch the riverbank while constructing the access route.
The meeting has drawn the attention of the Department of Industry, and the Investment Board towards continuous monitoring of the project site and the company's performance whether the implementation is going as per the terms and conditions.
It may be noted that following the widespread public complaint that the cement company was violating the standards, the Committee had formed a sub-committee under the convenorship of Lekhraj Bhatta to study about the matter.
