House meet adjourned till Sunday 1 pm following UML protest

KATHMANDU, May 5: The Legislature-Parliament meeting has been adjourned till Sunday 1 pm following obstruction by the CPN-UML lawmakers on Friday.

No sooner the House meeting started than the CPN-UML lawmakers gathered at the well and protested against the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

The House meeting called for 1 pm today was rescheduled for 2 pm after the UML lawmakers came hard on the impeachment motion filed against CJ Karki.

Earlier on Friday morning, Speaker had a discussion with top leaders of major three parties regarding the House business and the impeachment motion.

She had discussed the issues with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli along with the chief whips of the three parties at her chamber in Baneshwar but the meeting could not strike any consensus.

As many as 249 lawmakers from Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) had filed an impeachment motion against CJ Karki on April 30 accusing her of breaching the jurisdiction of the constitution.
