While waiting for the right day to ´distribute´ the items, these were kept in the party office for the last two weeks even though the hospital was in serious need of the instruments and it had specially demand them from the ministry.[break]
On Sunday, central member of the party Lal Kishore Shah handed over the instruments that included a set of X-ray machine and 50 beds and mattresses to the hospital at a function attended by all the doctors and staff members and members of various political parties. Many took this as a misuse of power by health minister Rajendra Mahato, who belongs to Sadbhawana party.
“If the X-ray machine and beds were donated by the Sadbhawana Party, we would not say anyhing. But, as the items were sent by the Health Ministry, it is a gross misuse of power that a member of a political party is distributing such important machines for the hospital at a political function,” a participant at the program said.
On the other hand, the hospital could not run smoothly on Sunday as the newly appointed Hospital Chief Dr Ramshankar Thakur had directed all the doctors and staff members to attend the program. Thakur is believed to have become the new chief of the hospital because of his proximity to the health minister.
