HISSAN, students unions reach understanding

KATHMANDU, July 27: Agitating student unions and Higher Secondary Schools Association-Nepal (HISSAN) reached an understanding to not target the educational institutions for any violent attack.



It was agreed in a dialogue held between two sides at HISSAN´s office in Baneswor on Friday. [break]



During the meeting, the school proprietors asked student leaders to raise the issue of private sector´s contributions and weaknesses in the educational sector, while student leaders put forward a proposal of educational subsidy to students by giving up the trend of commercialization and putting names after English cities and clubs.



A verbal understanding was reached to not make any violent activities on schools and that the school operators would facilitate to have the demands by student unions met, said HISSAN vice-chairperson Ramesh Silwal, who also attended the meeting Friday.



The meeting was attended by HISSAN chairperson Umesh Shrestha, PABSON chairperswon Dr Baburam Pokharel and a representative from N-PABSON and negotiators from Nepal Students´ Union, ANNFSU, ANNISU-Revolutionary and Terai-based student unions.
