Hike for social cause in Pokhara

POKHARA, May 6: Pokharelis will undertake a charity hike on Saturday to promote a healthy lifestyle and positive-thinking in the community, as well as provide a much-needed boost to international tourism.



The 12-km hike from Lakeside to Siddha Baraha School in Thulakhet will also feature a health camp, cultural programs, and volleyball and swimming competitions, according to hike organizers from Boomerang Restaurant and the German Bakery.



Organizers hope to raise an estimated one hundred thousand rupees through a participant entry fee of Rs 500. Participants will include doctors, engineers, industrialists, businessmen, government and private office heads, political leaders and journalists. Proceeds will be donated to the local Siddhartha Club which works with orphans.



The organizers raised Rs 50,000 in a hike from Lakeside to Bauddha Stupa last year which they donated to the Himalayan Eye Hospital.
