KATHMANDU, Nov 25: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala and CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist) Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal held talks on Wednesday on forming a High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) and ending the current political deadlock.

Khanal hoped that the formation of the much-hyped mechanism would materialize within a week. "Hope, the mechanism will be announced within a week," he told reporters after the meeting at Koirala´s residence.

The two leaders were one on the view that the deadlock cannot be resolved without consensus among the major political parties. "Both the leaders had a common view that the task of constitution writing cannot be completed on time and peace process cannot be taken to a logical end without adopting the politics of consensus," said Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who was present in the meeting.

Earlier, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had also met Koirala on forming the proposed mechanism, which will mainly focus on the constitution writing and expediting the peace process apart from resolving serious political disputes if and when needed in the future.
