KATHMANDU, May 17: The high-level government committee formed to prevent and contain the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has recommended to the government to extend the ongoing nationwide lockdown with even stricter rules.
A meeting of the committee on Sunday, concluding that the lockdown has helped the nation avoid a terrible accident, recommended to the government to extend the ongoing lockdown, which expires on Monday, according to the secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers (OPMCM), Narayan Prasad Bidari.
“The number of COVID-19 cases has been on the rise. We have recently reported two deaths due to this virus. The meeting concluded that the situation would have turned worse if the government had not enforced the lockdown,” said Bidari adding that the meeting also stressed proper management of quarantine facilities set up at the local units.
