KATHMANDU, March 10: Organizers of Helambu Marathon on Monday said that the second edition of the 42 km race wwill be held on March 21. The race will start from Shermathang and go through Ghayngul, Tharkegyang, Naakote, Milarepa Cave, Timbu, Kiul, Thalo and Tapharka and conclude at Shermathang itself.According to organizers, Himalaya Sports Club, they are expecting more than 500 participants, including 18 foreigners who have already confirmed their participation.
Gosaikunda Helambu Marathon from Saturday
“The route involves some of the most beautiful villages of Helambu,” said the organizers in a statement on Monday. “Basically, the aim of this event is to promote Helambu as perfect tourist and adventure sport destination.
In the years to come, we believe that this marathon will increase the flow of tourists in Helambu,” said Tshiring Lama, the chief coordinator of the event and the winner of Everest Marathon 2005. The top three athletes in the open men’s section will receive Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
