Suresh won the competitive first set 13-11. However, Suresh couldn´t control the momentum later as Heera equalized by winning second set 11-5. This win gave confident as Heera went on to take next two sets 11-9 and 11-6 to win the match and the title.
In women´s singles, it was quite easy affair for Bhawana Sunwar. Bhawana recorded a comfortable victory over Kshitiz Gurung in three straight sets. Bhawana beat Kshitiz 11-7, 11-8 and 11-9 to lift the title.
In junior´s category, played in the round-robin league format, Amrit Thapa clinched the title. He remained unbeaten throughout he tournament.
In veteran´s (45+) single final, Suresh Gurung eased past Lal Bahadur Adhikari. Suresh Gurung beat Lal Bahadur three sets to nil.
The tournament was held from July 13 at the Squash complex, Satdobato, Lalitpur by Nepal Squash and Racquets Association. The tournament offered four titles -- Men´s Open, Ladies Open, Veteran´s Open and Junior´s Open. The organizers promised to further train the players who perform well in the junior´s category.
Joshi, Pujari through to taekwondo semis
KATHMANDU, July 19: Sujan Joshi of Sallaghari and Sujan Pujari of Dhalko secured their berths for the semifinal of senior men´s U-58 kg category winning their respective matches in the ongoing Fourth Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.
Joshi defeated Anish Maharjan of Khumal and Pujari edged Dinesh Shrestha of National Taekwondo Training Center (NTTC). In the same weight category, Purusottam Manandhar from Birgunj ousted Yam Bahadur Pun of Nepal Police and Surendra Chaudhary outdid Kumar Pun of Prithivi club to book their places in semis.
In senior men´s U-63 kg category, Durga Bahadur of Nepal Police beat his teammate Ganesh Bahadur Khadka to book place in the last four.
In senior men´s U-54 kg category, Santosh Pun of Balgram, Sitaram Aryal of Nepal Army, Rajendra Shahi from Birgunj and Bishnu Kumar Chaudhary from Butwal advanced into the quarterfinal winning their respective matches.
In junior men´s U-45 kg category, Mekh Bahadur Lama of Balgram and Dipesh Shakya of Bindesharpur made it through to quarterfinals. Lama outplayed Mahesh Karki and Shakya beat Sonam Ghising of SOS Balgram. Likewise, Pradip Ale Magar of Dhalko club, Sushil Acharya of SOS Balgram, Suraj Acharya of Bhumahee club and Suman Dahal of Mulpani club also secured their places in the quarterfinals.
In junior women´s U-42 kg category, Sangita Pulami from Nigjadh, Parvati Gurung from Chitwan and Shakti Kumari Gurung of Challenger club advanced into the quarterfinals winning their respective matches. Pulami defeated Parbati Lama of Om club and Parvati Gurung beat Kabita Thapa from Panauti.
In junior women´s U-49 kg category, Jenisha Shrestha of Laiku club and Puja Amatya from Trishuli advanced into the second round. Likewise, Muna Rai from Chaksikot and Jitkala Gurung from Simara also won their respective first round matches.
The tournament is jointly organized by Nepal Taekwondo Association and South Korean embassy.
Nepal´s satisfactory performance in chess
KATHMANDU, July 19: Nepal´s performance in the sixth round of the ongoing 11th Standard Chartered School Chess Championship remained satisfactory at the Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sunday.
Title contender Rupesh Jaiswal, Bijayraj Aryal and Shanta Thapa (girl´s category) won their respective matches while Asmita Adhikari was held for a draw. Jaiswal defeated Kawsar Hussain to accumulate 5.5 points in his account while Aryal has added four points.
In girl´s category, Thapa and Adhikari collected five points apiece to remain jointly in the second spot with other five players.
