KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Several areas along the Dhading-Gorkha border and in Kanchanpur, Sindhupalchok and Arghakhanchi districts received very heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Kanchanpur recorded the highest rainfall during the period, with 141 millimetres. Rainfall between 100 and 200 millimetres within 24 hours is classified as very heavy rainfall. The department said rain has continued in Kanchanpur from Saturday through Sunday morning.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces
The Arughat station in Gorkha recorded 124.4 millimetres of rainfall, resulting in heavy rain along the Dhading Gorkha border.
During the same period, Sindhupalchok recorded 123.2 millimetres and Arghakhanchi 115.2 millimetres. Sindhupalchok has experienced continuous moderate to very heavy rainfall over the past several days.
Heavy rainfall was also recorded in parts of several districts in Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati and Koshi provinces over the past 24 hours. Other areas received moderate to light rainfall, according to department data. Rainfall has eased in these areas since Sunday morning.
The risk of flooding in rivers and streams has increased in districts that received heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. The department has specifically warned of flood risks in rivers and streams in Kanchanpur and Arghakhanchi.
Residents living along riverbanks in the affected areas have been urged to remain alert.
