KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Monsoon winds are currently affecting the country, with the monsoon low pressure line positioned around its average location, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division.
The hilly and mountainous regions are generally cloudy at present. The Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces are also generally cloudy, while the remaining Terai areas have partly cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rain is currently occurring at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
According to the weather bulletin issued by the division, the country will remain generally cloudy this afternoon. Some parts of the mountainous and hilly regions are likely to receive moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some parts of the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as a few places in Madhes and the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, may receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
Heavy rain forecast in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki areas
The bulletin said heavy rain is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, the mountainous areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.
Tonight, the country will remain generally cloudy. Some parts of the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as a few places in the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, may receive moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning.
Many places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and a few places in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, are also likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some parts of Madhesh Province and the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, along with a few places in the Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province, may receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
Heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and the hilly areas of Lumbini Province.
The division has urged people in areas where heavy rain is expected to remain alert, as the rainfall could trigger debris flows, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
Rainfall could also disrupt daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transport and air services in the affected areas. The division has urged concerned authorities and the public to stay updated with its latest weather information.
