KATHMANDU, Sept 29: A pre-scheduled hearing on a case against the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Sapkota, has been deferred again.
Without starting the hearing, the order of it being deferred was issued by the Supreme Court. A final sitting for hearing the case by the constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana including Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Hari Krishna Karki and Iswor Prasad Khatiwada was scheduled for today. The hearing has been postponed time and again.
Sapkota is accused of murdering one Arjun Lama of Kavre during the course of the decade-long Maoist armed conflict in the country. A case was filed against Sapkota by Lama’s wife Purnimaya Lama in 2008, accusing him of kidnapping lama and burying him alive.
After the case was not properly investigated by the police, Purnimaya filed a case at the Supreme Court on March 5, 2008. The case is supposed to be heard by a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court.
