KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The hearing on the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court (SC) against Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari’s academic qualification is scheduled to be held on January 28.
A division bench of SC justices Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Bal Krishna Dhakal could not hear the case on Tuesday due to time constraint, and therefore the next date of hearing was fixed.
Earlier, on December 29, a single bench of SC Justice Sushmalata Mathema had issued an order in the name of the government to submit the reasons for appointing Adhikari to the post of governor.
According to Section 20 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058, a writ was filed in the Supreme Court claiming that Adhikari was appointed as the governor without the minimum educational qualification required to be appointed to the post of governor.
Four advocates including Advocate Deepak Raj Joshi have made the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance and the Nepal Rastra Bank defendants in the case. They are demanding immediate revocation of appointment of Adhikari. The writ petitioners have contended that a chartered accountant degree cannot be considered a postgraduate degree.
