KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Medical Workers´ Union padlocked record sections of the District Public Health Offices (DPHO) throughout the country on Tuesday. The union has been demanding amendment to the Health Act and rectification of irregularities in the purchase of medicines for free distribution.

President of the union Bhagirath Baniya said medical workers padlocked record sections of 63 DPHOs including Kathmandu on Tuesday. “We have received information that Udayapur CDO used force to open the section. We condemn the act,” Baniya said. The workers have stopped reporting from sub-health posts to the center. The union said it was compelled to stage protests as their demands went unheard.
