DOLPA, Aug 18: Health workers of five-health posts of Tripurasunadari Municipality of Dolpa have been deprived of their salaries for the last four months.

Krishna Karki, assistant coordinator of the health posts of Tripurasundari, said that some of the health workers of Pahada, Liku, Tripurakot, Fulching and Suu health posts have been deprived of their salaries for the past four months. Reportedly, there are 27 such workers.

Despite drawing attention of the responsible authority repeatedly, local unit is yet to distribute salaries to the health workers. The officials of the municipality reply they have not yet received the complete budget for distributing salaries of health workers, according to Karki.

Chandra Prakash Budhthapa, a non-gazetted officer of Tripurasundari, said that the municipality had requested the higher authority to send a budget of Rs 5.4 million for the salaries of health workers. "However, the local unit received only Rs. 1.7 million. This is the reason why the municipality has not been able to pay salaries to health workers," he said.

Auxiliary Health Worker Tul Bahadur Shrestha, who is also the In-Charge of Tripurakot Health Post, laments that it has been very difficult for them to manage their expenses without their salaries. Health workers have warned of taking to the streets with violent protests if they are not provided with their salaries on time. They said they would be staging protest by shutting down health institutions if their demand is not addressed soon.
