TAPLEJUNG, Sept 2: The agitated health workers in Taplejung district have called off their strike and agreed to reopen the medical centers after the police on Sunday confirmed that their missing colleague was murdered, and made some arrests in the case.

A senior health worker, Chhedi Lal Sah, was missing since July 11. The agitating trade unions of heath workers, backed by the locals, were relieved after the police on Sunday made public 5 out of 7 persons who were arrested in connection with Sah´s murder. [break]

Demanding immediate investigation into the whereabouts of Sah as well as security for the health workers in the district, the agitators in nine VDCs of the district had shutdown their medical centers for the past one and a half months.

The police had made public three persons arrested on the charge of the murder on Saturday. However, the agitators were not satisfied and had decided to continue the strike until a thorough investigation into the case.

“We have decided to call off our protests and reopen the medical centers after the police administration also pledged to provide us tight security,” said coordinator of the agitating unions, Hem Kathaya.
