The rally began from the premises of Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital and marched through various places of the town. The demonstrators chanted slogans against Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Dhakal, Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Prasad and the Superintendent of Police of the Armed Police Force, calling for their suspension.Stating that the behavior of police toward health workers was not appropriate, the pharmacy operators have also decided to close their shops in the district from 6 am to 10 am from Friday, informed Tula Nath Majhi, a medical entrepreneur.
All health facilities, including Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, in the district have remained closed for the last 20 days since some police staff manhandled health workers and doctors by entering the hospital.
Even the health posts and private clinics have remained closed in support of the protest. The general public, already reeling under the prolonged agitaton of the United Democratic Madhesi Front, is forced to undergo additional hardship due to the protest of health workers and medical shop operators.
Hundreds of locals had gathered at the zonal hospital after the death of two people from Bhardaha and Rupani in Saptari on November 21. The agitating public vandalized police vehicle and attacked police officials, according to the police. However, the District Police Office has acknowledged that the police had to charge baton to take control of the situation and some health workers might have faced misbehavior during the melee.
