KATHMANDU, July 31: The Ministry of Health and Population is currently investigating a complaint regarding the misuse of its website meant to issue COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

The MoHP has been informed of unauthorized activities, including the creation of a fake website resembling the official one, and the generation of counterfeit QR codes to verify vaccination cards.

Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, joint-spokesperson at the ministry, stated that they received a complaint about the existence of a website closely resembling the official ministry site. He assured that the matter is being thoroughly investigated to address concerns related to vaccine certification.

The MoHP has advised relevant authorities to conduct necessary inquiries as there have been reports of fraudulent activities, especially targeting individuals traveling abroad. The misuse of the ministry's fake website has caused confusion and deceit among travelers seeking to visit Nepal.

In an effort to ease travel restrictions, the government has recently removed the mandatory requirement for a COVID-19 PCR test and proof of vaccination for entry into Nepal. However, it is essential for travelers to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of any websites or QR codes related to vaccination certification.

Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari also highlighted that some countries have already eliminated the need for QR codes while traveling abroad. Nevertheless, travelers are urged to stay updated with official travel guidelines to avoid falling victim to fraudulent practices.
