KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Standing Committee member of the UCPN (Maoist), Dev Gurung, said that the Hattiban meeting of top leaders of three big parties has laid a base for political consensus.

Speaking at a face-to-face program organized by Janasanchar Abiyan in Capital on Monday, Gurung said that in the meeting broad discussions were held on the problems facing the country. [break]He also expressed hope that the next meeting scheduled for November 10 will take important decisions regarding the country´s main agendas.

However, Gurung said the meeting failed to find a way out as one faction close to the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML stressed for the integration of Maoist army fighters before the formation of a new government.

However, another section of Maoist party, NC and UML pressed for the formation of a new government by resolving the other remaining tasks in a package, he added.

Though the meeting failed to meet the expectation, it has held out high hopes, he said, adding that his party proposed for making a calendar for army integration and government formation. "Our party stressed for government formation at the earliest, as the caretaker government, constitutionally, has no right to make policy related decisions."

Gurung also informed that his party would not object if a new government is formed through political consensus.
