Dr Sanowar Hossain says Mia, a retired nuclear scientist, passed away late Saturday at the private Square Hospital in the capital, Dhaka. Hasina was at his side. Mia was admitted to the hospital´s intensive care unit last week to treat complications from heart, kidney, diabetic and respiratory problems. He had undergone heart surgery in Singapore in March.
Mia and Hasina were married in 1968. They have two adult children.
