KATHMANDU, June 9: “Hamro Team” is a story written by Nepali writers under Search for Common Ground Nepal, and is directed by Bhushan Dahal. Produced by AB Pictures Pvt. Ltd, the casting of Hamro Team is peppered with a slew of experienced actors as well as those making their debuts.

The film is made with an international theme and emphasizes on instilling teamwork, confidence, leadership, and determination among the youth.[break] The film reflects on how people can together achieve their goals as a team and as individuals. All it takes is the courage to dream and the determination to defy all odds to achieve it.

The theme of the film is different from those of other Nepali TV shows, and combines social and cultural issues. The project is a part of a multi-country television episodic drama being produced by Search for Common Ground and Common Ground Productions with local partners in each of these countries. It is being implemented in Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Nepal, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Angola, Burundi, Guinea, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe. The Team in Ethiopia, Burundi and Guinea are radio programs whereas the rest of the countries produce it as television series.

“Despite this being my first TV serial and having a lot of new faces, I think we’ve put in good efforts, and it can be seen in the series,” said Bhushan Dahal. At an estimated average cost of Rs 1.5 million, the project is said to be one of the most expensive TV serials to date.

Shedding light on the theme of the story, Reecha Sharma, the main protagonist of the story, revealed, “The theme revolves around football, which beautifully reflects the concept of teamwork. The prospect of the sport is growing, and it was quite evident in the unrivaled popularity it enjoyed locally during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.”

The story of the Nepali version of The Team – Hamro Team – has been written by Abinash Shah, Deepak Rauniyar, and Abhimanyu Nirabi.

The film was completed three months ago. However, the launching was deliberately delayed due to the frequent power cuts. The content of the film aims to raise awareness among the youth to achieve targets at the national level.

“The efforts put in by the crew are tremendous, and the episodes are really entertaining indeed,” said Bhusan Dahal.

The 13 episodes of Hamro Team will be aired every Thursday 9 pm on Kantipur Television.

A night with Murad Ali

To relish the beauty of poetry and music on one stage, Mu’az Entertainment and 1905 in Kanti Path is creating an apt ambience on the eve of June 10. The event “Poet of the Fall” is bringing in versatile actor, poet and drifter Murad Ali to rock the stage by infusing the elements of poetry, music and drama.

As an actor and an avid thinker for the night, Murad will be projecting his thoughts via poetry put into motion with music.

“Murad Ali is performing for the first time in Kathmandu, and in his rebellious, experimental and contemporary way, he’ll present a stand-in act of poetry with music,” said Bijay Shrestha, one of the organizers of the event.

He added that the first act of the evening will be Ali and pianist  Upendra Lal Singh performing together. That will be followed by the performance of the band Upendra and Friends.

“In the beautiful setting of 1905, we wanted to merge poetry and music together, which is why we came up with this concept,” Shrestha said.

For keen observers, Murad’s enactments should produce déjà vu as it’s highly inspired by the bold and eminent scenes from such cult productions as “The Departed” and “Taxi Driver.” Synchronized with a mix of western and Indian melodies performed live on stage, he delivers the quintessential mix of high drama and his unique sound dynamics.

As spontaneous overflow of emotions, poetry is the language in which man explores his own amazement. Inject music into the quotient of words, and the expression takes on a whole new dimension. For those who agree and those who are looking to be convinced, “Poet of the Fall” is the event to attend.

Theater  for a worthy cause

The Nepal Shakes is performing The Glass Menagerie, a play written by Tennessee Williams, at the Kamalmani Theatre of Patan Dhoka on June 11 and 12.

The show is a charity event and has been put up in support of The Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) at Bhainsepati of Saanga in Kavre District.

Elaborating the idea behind the show, Elum Dixit, actor and director of the show, said, “I couldn’t say no when the people at SIRC approached me because of the cause attached to it.” Elum, who was on a break from his acting schedules, has given two months to prepare for the event. The show, he claims, will be a polished one and one of his best performances as a director and actor.

The Glass Menagerie was Elum’s first choice as he believes the audiences will be able to relate it to the current situation in Nepal. The story evolves around a family in the midst of the Great Depression of America of 1929 and continuing through the 1930s.

The timing of the play is at 5:30 pm and the tickets are priced at Rs 1,000 each.
