Hamal and Tamang in QF

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Samjhana Hamal from Kavre and Anita Tamang from Dhading advanced into the quarterfinals of U-17 girls´ singles on Tuesday in the second Nepal Police National Badminton Tournament.



Hamal thrashed Reshma Thapa 21-3, 21-4 at the National Police Academy, Maharajgunj while Pratibha Khadka gave a walkover to Tamang. Likewise, Renu Memba and Namuna Basyal also reached the last eight in the category.[break]



Meanwhile, Samjhana Sharma from Dhading beat Nirmala Giri in the women´s singles. Renu Memba defeated Sarita Tamang 21-8, 21-16 and Sabita Paneru thrashed Nidhi Amatya 21-5, 21-4 to enter the pre-quarterfinal stage. Likewise, Anita Tamang, Manila Shrestha, Saraswati Shrestha and Merry Thapa entered the round of last 16 in the women´s singles category.



In U-17 boys´ singles, Rahul Gupta, Sailesh Dahal, Sudeep Sedhain, Sunil Shakya, Deepak Singh Bhat, Tirtha Kumar Malla, Ayush Bahadur Shah, Megh Bahadur Tamang, Aashman Lopchan and Yoban Rai reached the pre-quarterfinal of the tournament on Tuesday winning their respective matches.



Nepal Police IGP Ramesh Chanda Thakuri inaugurated the tournament on Tuesday amidst of a function at the Nepal Police Club, Exhibition Road.



Altogether 247 athletes, including 37 women, are contesting in the tournament in seven different events.
