JANAKPURDHAM, July 6: An altercation stemming from a motorcycle hitting a dog in Mahottari escalated into gunfire, with 38-year-old Kaushal Mandal from Ramgopalpur Municipality-1 Busbitti shooting at 44-year-old Shravan Yadav. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when Mandal's motorcycle hit Yadav's dog. Mandal reportedly threatened to shoot Yadav during the confrontation.

Dilip Giri, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Mahottari, stated that Mandal retrieved a pistol from his residence and fired at Yadav near Ramgopalpur Chowk. Two shots were fired, and the shooter is now under police custody. The authorities have seized the pistol and ammunition.

Yadav is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Janaki Health Care and Research Center in Janakpurdham, according to the police. Dr. Saurabh Karna, who is attending to Yadav, revealed that one bullet passed through his neck and exited through his temple, while another bullet struck in his chest. The bullet lodged in Yadav's chest was successfully removed at the hospital. The doctor emphasized that Yadav's condition remains critical.

As Mandal attempted to flee the scene after shooting Yadav, local residents intervened and tried to apprehend him. In the process, two more individuals sustained injuries. Shravan's son, Avinash Yadav, and local Siya Sharan Mandal, both injured while trying to apprehend Mandal, are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ramgopalpur, according to Sudeep Yadav, Shravan's brother-in-law.

“Kaushal was going to his home in Lakshmipur from Basbitti. The wheel of the motorcycle he was driving hit a dog,” he said, “After that there was abuse between both parties, later at five o'clock in the evening, Kaushal fired two shots at my brother-in-law Shravan.”

It is worth noting that Shravan had been residing in India with his family but relocated to this area a year and a half ago. On the other hand, Kaushal returned from Kuwait just 10 days ago.
