KATHMANDU, Dec 5: A group of irate guardians on Thursday vandalized windowpanes of DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati Higher Secondary School.

According to Ram Chandra Khanal, coordinator of the DAV school in Jawalakhel, General Secretary of Nepal Students Union (NSU) Jit Jung Basnet, among others, vandalized windowpanes of the school in a brawl with teachers. [break]

Basnet does not have any of his children studying in the school.

However, Basnet said nobody in particular ransacked the school. “Some windowpanes were smashed during a scuffle,” he said. “We had gone to the school to meet the principal. But, some teachers did not let us meet her. Their misbehavior provoked us, which finally led to a minor brawl.”

Basnet, along with others, had gone to the school after parents of some students, who skipped outing programs on Thursday, were summoned by the school´s administration. The school had arranged field-visits to Godawari and Tribhuvan Park, Thankot, for science students.

Students said they skipped field-visits since they were merely picnics. However, the school maintained field-visits were part of the curriculum.

Khanal said a large number of students bunked off compulsory outing programs because they were not allowed to independently carry along cameras.
