Group posing as Maoists robs French tourists

GORKHA, Oct 28: A group of persons calling themselves as Maoist cadres robbed French tourists at gunpoint in Nareshwar-4 Dhakalswara of the district Tuesday night.



The masked group took away Rs 70,000 from the tourists and Nepali guides who had camped for the night at the place. “They demanded Rs 400,000 in the name of party initially and took Rs 70,000. They had also asked for cameras but the tourists lied saying they didn´t have any,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the district Suresh Basnet said.



The team of 58, including guides, had 18 French tourists and was on its way to Manang. DSP Basnet said police are searching robbers.
