Inaugurating the National Water Week here on Sunday, Minister Ghimire stressed on the need of protecting and strengthening the sources of water as it is useful in human life. The Water Week has begun from today.[break]
He said that there is a great importance of water for human life, so all should be involved in protecting sources of water including, rivers, rivulets and ponds.
Stating that water should be brought into use in multi-purpose, Minister Ghimire said that the government is ready to provide necessary support to bring new technology for the same.
The Home and Foreign Affairs Minister said that there was a great change in water sources in Asia due to climate change, and urged all organisations concerned for their involvement in protecting water sources.
On the occasion, Chairman of the National Water Week Organising Committee and Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Bishwo Prakash Pandit, said that advocating sustainable management of water and spreading awareness about challenges and benefits of water is the main objective of the Water Week.
Pandit said that there is also impact in environment of Himalayan region due to climate change.
The World Water Day is observed on 22 March every year since 1993 as per the recommendation made by UN conference on environment and development held in 1992.
´Water is life-Respect it, Conserve it, Enjoy it´ is the slogan of this year´s Water Week.
Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Mahendra Bahadur Gurung, pointed out the need of collaboration among organizations working for water and added that awareness should be spread about sustainable management of water sources and problems related to water of urban areas.
Secretary of the organizing committee, Sudarshan Rajbhandari, informed about programmes of Water Week.
