According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister´s Office, 280 kg of beaten rice, 230 kg of rice, 500 kg of sugar, 2100 bottles of water purifying liquid, 20,000 tablets of chlorine have been sent to Darchula, the most affected district. [break]
Landslides and flood in Darchula, Dailekh, Doti, Baitadi, Humala, Kalikot, Palpa, Jumla, Acchham, Kanchanpur, Rupandehi, Bhajhang, Mustan, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Kailali, Dolpa, Dadeldhura, Bardiya, Siraha and Salyan have claimed at least 39 people. Reports state that around 17 people are missing and 7 have been injured. The disaster is said to have damaged 582 houses fully and 1057 houses partially.
At the meeting, Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Hari Banskota directed the concerned department officials to act more responsibly to ensure that the relief package reaches the victims. Secretaries of Home Ministry, Finance Ministry, Health Ministry and Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ministry were told to expedite the relief work.
Banskota ordered immediate distribution of Rs 35,000 along with other relief materials per family of the victims who are fully displaced. He also asked to ensure rehabilitation of the people who have been forced to flee their homes.
Meanwhile, Banskota informed that public toilets are also being constructed in the affected regions for proper sanitation and hygiene. He added that the government is also erecting embankments in several regions including at the borderline of Kailali and Bardiya.
“We inspected the hospital services in Darchula and have asked the concerned authorities to take steps to help the affected people,” he said.
